I fought the urge to lie down on the grass. That was the first time that's ever happened. Now, I usually do have some pain/discomfort when I run; it either passes or I can push through it. As someone so accurately put it, it felt like someone was stabbing me in the right knee, thigh & hip with an ice pick. I kept thinking, "Run like Pre, run like Pre. . ." (he advocated running through pain) but that wasn't helping. I stopped periodically to stretch the offending part, that didn't work either. Some of you asked me if I was OK, I lied & said I was fine. I just didn't want to quit. :( Quitting would mean I was a failure. Finally, when Scotty, Anna & Matt happened by I could swallow my pride. I didn't want to keep going & cause serious injury & not go to Chicago at all. :(
What went wrong?? I didn't stretch before I took off. Plus, I hadn't done any training runs this week. I didn't properly pace myself--have to start slowly to have enough energy for a good finish. Running like Pre isn't always a good thing. But, there were some things I did right--I was better hydrated for this run; I carb-loaded the day before; & I had a good breakfast. I had extra water with me & had Clif Blocks.
I am going to be ready for 22 miles. I am not going to make the same mistakes. WE ARE MARATHONERS!!!!!!\o/

I COULD TELL YOU WERE ABOUT TO GO DOWN,I THINK YOU MADE A WISE MOVE BY TAKING THE TRUCK BACK,
HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER,,
SEE YA NEXT SATURDAY,
Glad you're doing better. Take it easy, stretch, hydrate and get a good night's sleep. See you next week!
We all have good runs and bad runs. I am glad that you were wise enough to stop and avoid injury. We need you in Chicago!!!!
Hang in there. Suzanne
We had similar days. Fortunately for me, I decided to sit down back at the park. I know though, that I did not hydrate as well, and did too much Friday and Thursday outside... We will do better on the next long run.
I'm glad you were smart and decided to swallow that pride. Otherwise it could have been really bad! Get to feeling better.
I wish I had taken the truck back and I also fought the urge to just sit down on the curb and cry, not just a misty eyed moment but an all out bawl. At one point on the way back I got very emotional, feeling very weak and vulnerable; I realized in the awe of that moment that even though I was struggling that I could look out over the water knowing that the God who created the beauty around me would also give me the strength to push through or the wisdom to know when to quit. I stopped on the causeway and prayed. I am here to tell you that was the hardest thing I have ever done. WE are stonger for every moment like that we experience.
Have a great week!

I remember asking if you were okay going toward Campfire Cir. Then I saw you stretching your leg and I figured you were having a cramp of some sort. Glad you listened to your body and hitched a ride...we want you with us in Chicago!!

Call Wayne if you need him and good for you for coming back in the truck! Better now than in Chicago!
I'm glad you took the truck back, because I want you in Chicago! I turned around at the last water stop and didn't finish all 20. I knew I had almost nothing left in me, and I didn't want to push myself to the point of passing out.
you know what I love about marathon training? carbo loading. I love pasta. See you Saturday!
Just be glad you had your bad one on a training run and got it out of the way so it won't happen in Chicago!
I did lie down in the grass during the 20 miles in Denver. My back was killing me. I probably should have had more sense and stopped earlier.
