Properly hydrated?? Check
Stretched?? Check
Carb Load the Night Before?? Check (if 9:30 late meal of French toast counts)
Have a Good Breakfast?? Check
Disposed of Now 4 Week Old Tuna?? Heck yeah.
So, I was all set for Saturday. The night before, both Will & I were craving French toast or oatmeal. I opted for French toast; I made a huge amount of it and we ate like pigs. I didn't sleep very well, probably because I had indigestion. I took it easy on Labor Day, ran 5 miles on Tuesday. The IT band in my right leg acted up a little, but the knees started hurting worse. I iced them & rested Thursday. Looks like it paid off because I had a great run today.
However, doubts are starting to creep in. Feeling the aches & pains is scary. All I can think about is breaking down in Chicago & being unable to continue. I did it at 20 miles & was unable to complete the whole distance. I'm feeling like I just HAVE to complete this up coming run, otherwise why bother trying to do 26.2?? Ok, I am a marathoner, I am a marathoner. . .

You can do this! Even if the 22 miler stinks, you can make it to the finish line.
You are going to do this! It will be soooo different in Chicago. Remember that! You can do it. Remember that the 3 week old tuna might have contributed to your not finishing the 20 miles. :-) Yuck.
Kim,
Remember, you are WELL TRAINED after 8 months!
The "between your ears" part is creeping in - push it out !
You ARE a marathoner!
You CAN do this!

Ahhhh! It's a gremlin attack! They usually occur more during the last month before the marathon. Chicago is so different: the route, no humdity, the awesome crowd, the other crazy runners, the water stops, the adrenaline. Run your own race and enjoy the ride. You can, and you will do this, because YOU ARE A MARATHONER! Just do it, girl! Don't let the gremlins win.
Kim, you looked like you were doing good yesterday. Don't forget we are in MS, and no one is cheering us through this ridiculous heat and humidity. The only thing that will beat us now is between our ears.
You looked absolutely GREAT out there yesterday...very strong. I KNOW you will finish in Chicago. Remember, the hyped up crowd, all the excitement around you will help take your mind off any pain you may have. Plus, you will say to yourself, "body, you can hurt all you want, I am FINISHING THIS RACE. Get a stick and run those thoughts outa your mind!
Cheryl
Yes you can!! I know you can do this! Just keeping repeating to yourself. . . I can do this. . .I CAN DO THIS! and it will happen. And when that little devil pops up on your shoulder and says "No you can't," Give him a determined look and flick him off your shoulder! You will do this!

You will NOT break down in Chicago. You WILL finish, even if you have to crawl in on your knees! You may have to slow down and walk slower at the end but you WILL cross the finish line!!!!!!! I want to be able to see your medal at the party back in Jackson. You hear me? I may not be able to do my marathon this year but I'll be back in the saddle next year and hope that you are, too!
Yep, Carol is right. We will finish even if we have to crawl on our hands and knees. You of all people shouldn't be worried anyway. You have been damn consistent and strong the whole way through! That's not going to change now. You can do it girl! We're all just nervous and anxious, that's all. But we can and WILL do it!
